\u00a0 \u00a0 The church, dedicated to the Painful Virgin, was originally built by the Pauline Order.\u00a0The exact timeframe of construction is uncertain, but it most likely took place between 1740 and 1772. After Emperor Joseph II dissolved the Pauline Order in 1786, the Premonstratensians took over their church and monastery in Oradea in 1808. Between 1872 and 1874, the monastery building underwent major expansion and was redesigned in eclectic style. The enlarged building later hosted the Oradea Catholic High School and the Royal Academy of Law. Although the Premonstratensians only returned to Oradea after 1802 to take over the former Pauline monastery and manage the city’s Catholic high school, their presence in the city dates back much earlier.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 In 1131, King Stephen II brought the order to Oradea during the lifetime of Saint Norbert, its founder. He established the V\u00e1radel\u0151hegy Convent, making it the mother abbey of the Premonstratensians in Hungary and his own burial site. The medieval monastery was later destroyed. For a long time, its remains were thought to be on today\u2019s Calvary Hill, but recent archaeological excavations have identified its actual location further east, on the plateau of the former Saint Stephen Hill \u2014 adding to the list of undiscovered Hungarian royal burial sites. The nearby spa resort, B\u0103ile Felix \u2014 one of the region\u2019s most popular tourist attractions \u2014 is named after Father Helker F\u00e9lix, the administrator of the Premonstratensian estates in Bihar County. The development of the spa began in the 18th century, under the ownership and initiative of the Premonstratensian Order.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
