The Abbey of Sâniob

Sâniob, located on the banks of the Berettyó river, is the most important place of worship of the Roman-Catholic Diocese of Oradea, next to the episcopal seat.
This is due to two outstanding traditions: we can find here the Benedictine abbey founded by Saint Ladislaus, where the reliquary holding the right hand Saint Stephen was preserved for three centuries (this is also the name of the settlement), and the baroque altar painting from the cemetery chapel dedicated to the Nativity of Mary, now kept in the church of Sâniob, which until 1948 was one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the region and is today the official pilgrimage center of our diocese.
